
From a young age, everyone is raised to formulate their own beliefs and expectations for just about every event in life, especially marriage. These beliefs are what drive expectations that are projected to partners in marriage. Beliefs are created in ones upbringing, but one would argue that as a relationship grows expectations and therefore beliefs, mold to realistic expectations that have been created by growing with one’s partner.
Couples have positive expectations about their apparent eternal future together. These positive beliefs generally create a positive filter they project on each other. These positive expectations can be a problem when they are too positive. You need to know how the expectation of retirement can directly impact how one actually reacts to leaving the workforce.
