Over the last few years, the numbers of STDs has increased. The increase is said to be related to the fact that there are no new services in place to educate and prevent these diseases. Even though many STD’s are treatable with antibiotics, if people are uneducated about it, or don’t have access to the testing they need; the number will continue to climb.
One of these diseases that can be especially dangerous is syphilis. It is being found more commonly in newborn babies, and it can cause miscarriage. People should have a place to go to get tested regularly to be sure that they are healthy.
This cannot happen when the budgets for STD centers are being cut each year. Though this data is primarily for the U.S. it is not hard to conceive that a similar or worse situation exists in India. The country needs to invest money in std prevention and education.
