All married couples quarrel, but when it’s happening all the time, it’s time to address the issue.
If spouses fight continuously, it begins to take a toll on the relationship.
Addressing it is not as simple as it sounds. Let’s say a wife gets angry when the husband won’t take out the trash when she asks. The simple solution is for him to take the trash. Problem solved, right?
It’s not so simple. The reason the husband doesn’t take out the trash maybe because he finds his wife too controlling. The reason the wife gets angry when he doesn’t take out the trash may be because she interprets it as a reluctance to support or help her.
The first step is to address the emotions behind the squabbles. Then we can try to work out the issue.
Self-reflection and self-monitoring are very important in getting over irrational beliefs and to help one understand that the spouse is not being manipulative or unsupportive just because they ask you to do something and or don’t do something immediately when you ask them to do a particular chore or task.
