Could cigarette smoking be the cause of infertility in men? A recent study conducted by a research team suggests that smoking could be the cause. The study included twenty non-smoking men and twenty smoking men.
The harmful effects of smoking on male fertility is demonstrated in this article published June 21, 2016 by BJU International, “Smoking May Have Negative Effects on Sperm Quality.” The article gives informative insight of the harmful effect on men’s sperm from smoking cigarettes. The study found that DNA fragmentation of the sperm was increased by cigarette smoking. Other studies have also suggested that sperm altered DNA may lead to health problems in the offspring.
