The Link Between Oral Sex and Menstrual Cycle

Oral sex for women is when their partner goes down on them and stimulates the clitoris. The stimulation excites the receiving partner and leads to the release of oxytocin. It is a type of relaxing hormone and is known as a also love hormone.

This hormone plays a critical role in uterine contractions and could potentially delay menstruation. Additionally, the release of dopamine and endorphins during oral sex may reduce stress and anxiety. Both the hormones are known to impact menstrual regularity.

At the same time, it is crucial to emphasize that relying on oral sex for period delay is not a foolproof method. Menstrual regularity is affected by hormonal imbalance, underlying medical conditions, and various medications.

Consulting a sexologist doctor is necessary before attempting any method to delay your period.

Menstrual Cycle and Different Factors

Menstruation happens when the uterus lining is shed in the form of blood and tissue from the vagina. It is a regular cycle for women and takes place in around 28 – 45 days for most women if they do not get pregnant. Different factors like hormones, stress, diet, and exercise can affect the regularity of the cycle.

Constant monitoring of your menstrual cycle through various tracking apps can help in identifying patterns and changes. Knowing about the patterns can help in the early detection of any irregularities that may save any damage ahead.

Medical conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and thyroid disorders can also cause irregular periods. It is important to keep a tab on the period cycle and seek medical attention for significant changes.

Oral sex involves an increase in oxytocin which causes uterine contractions and delayed periods. The release of dopamine, endorphins, and prostaglandins can indirectly affect menstrual regularity and intensity.

However, it is essential to note that oral sex does not directly influence hormones like estrogen and progesterone and is regulated by the endocrine system.

Can Oral Sex Truly Delay Your Period?

Though oral sex can affect the menstrual cycle, it does not hold true for every woman.

You should know that oral sex is not a sustainable method for delaying menstruation. If your prime motive is to delay periods then you should rather rely on alternative methods like oral contraceptives that are designed to regulate the cycle.

Associated Risks

Getting to oral sex for fulfilling the motive of delaying periods might carry a few risks. Engaging in oral sex with a partner carrying a sexually transmitted infection (STI) increases the risk of transmission.

To protect yourself against STIs it is vital to get regular tests done and consult with a sexologist doctor if required.

Penetrative sex including anal sex can also cause uterine contractions and delay periods.

Extended suppression of menstruation with any means may pose risks. It could cause grave conditions like endometrial cancer.

It is important to know and use oral sex as a temporary solution. To regulate periods or delay periods you should consult a healthcare provider.

Bottom Line

There is a link between sex and menstrual activity, but if you want to delay your period for some reason, you should talk rather talk to a doctor.
