The introverts guide to social engagement

December 10, 2018 by Dr. Arora Team

introverts

Engaging with society is something that comes really easy to introverts.

They are able to talk to all different kinds of people and they are personable enough where they can feel relaxed in almost all situations.

However, there are some introverts that really struggle with their social engagement.

They do not know what it is that they want to do in life and as a result, they cannot hold a worthy conversation with someone that is not in their social class.

Key Takeaways:

  • Although introverts value their isolation, research shows that having regular association with people can reduce the risks associated with heart disease, early death and depression.
  • Introverts feel a need to be alone by themselves. They expend a lot of energy in social gatherings and would rather spend time alone.
  • A doctor on psychiatry advises that introverts should not seek to change their personality rather they should enhance it by seeking opportunities to spend time with people.

“While people who by nature are more introverted are not necessarily at a higher risk for problems related to isolation, they should make efforts to stay engaged with others on some level, according to Dr. Steven Schlozman, an assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard-affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital.”
