A study that was published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has shown that foods high in certain flavonoids such as anthocyanins, flavones and flavanones have been associated with reduced risk of developing erectile dysfunction by up to 21 percent. The study shows that people who regularly consume products such as plant-based food and drinks have a 10 percent reduction in symptoms, a higher intake of fruit could lead to 14 percent reduction, while adding exercise was able to boost the reduction by 21 percent.
Over fifty thousand men were included in this study, with records going back to 1986. The main flavonoids at play, anthocyanins, flavones and flavanones, are found primarily in berries and citrus fruits and young men show the most significant change with the addition of flavonoids.
