Here are some common myths about ED and the facts!

Myth 1) “Erectile Dysfunction occurs with age and is a normal part of getting older.”

ED is common in older men, however it isn’t ‘normal’ and it’s not something that you have to put up with. Many men require extra stimulation to help with intercourse or to get them aroused as they get older, however, this doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy pleasurable sex in your senior years.

Myth 2) “Erectile Dysfunction doesn’t affect younger men.”

Older age isn’t always the main factor of ED. Stress, fatigue, physical health, injury, medication or other reasons can all be a contributing factor towards having problems getting an erection, and this can affect a man at any age.

Myth 3) “If you’re having difficulty getting an erection, this means you’re not attracted to your partner.”

Trouble getting an erection can be caused by many reasons, so it’s not necessarily because you aren’t attracted to your partner. It’s more likely that your ED is caused by another factor, such as health problems like high blood pressure, diabetes, and medication with strong side effects, stress and anxiety, injury or diseases.

If your partner is worried that you are not attracted to her anymore, explain to her how you are feeling and that the reason is not that you lack sexual attraction. ED can put pressure on a relationship, so do seek advice from a doctor or a sexologist and they may be able to prescribe medication or offer further guidance.

Myth 4) “ED isn’t going to harm my health, so I don’t need to seek any help.”

ED isn’t going to harm your health, however it can be a warning sign of an underlying health condition that you may be suffering from but not yet aware of.

Diabetes, heart problems, hormone imbalances, neurological disorders or Parkinson’s can be an underlying cause of ED, so this is why it’s so important that you see your doctor and seek a medical examination to identify the cause and get treatment, so that you can resume an active sex life and maintain optimal health.

There are a number of myths and misconceptions surrounding ED.
