While some feel that it’s just okay to share everything about their personal finance with their partners, others are of a viewpoint that there should be some things that must be kept hidden. Are you facing the same dilemma? Don’t worry. Check out these points to help to decide where to draw the line when it comes to sharing money related matters with your wife or husband.

Avoid having a joint account with your partner because by doing that you are sharing your expenses and incomes too. In such cases, if one partner spends on something without asking the other, there are chances for confusion. Also, there are certain details, which you may not want to share and it gets tough to hide them in a joint account scenario.

Don’t share your account passwords, as it would only allow your partner to act like a spy and keep an eye on your salaries, expenses, savings etc. In case you invested or spent somewhere from your personal salaried account, your partner would get a chance to question you and that may make way for problems.

Don’t make it a habit to give daily or weekly updates about your closing bank balance to your partner. It sounds like maintaining a school report card and can get really annoying. Let there be trust and faith as far as your money matters are concerned.

Try not using each other’s ATM cards because this practice may also be a cause for bickering. When one partner withdraws money using other’s ATM card, there is a sense of insecurity that your partner will become habitual of plastic money and will always ask you for instant withdrawals. Though this does not mean if your partner asks for it someday, you deny them bluntly but do not make it a habit of it.

Don’t make it a tendency to take your partner’s credit cards for shopping purposes because it makes them feel as if you have just used them as a money provider. Try and keep hard cash with you and spend that on shopping. By doing this, you can even keep a check on the amount spent and you won’t splurge more than you can afford.

Avoid being too dependent on your partner whenever there’s a bank transaction to be done. Be it depositing money in your account, keeping or taking out some stuff from the bank locker, getting some investment done etc., you have to be independent and not rely on your mate, as they will have various things to ask before they do your work and this may lead to arguments.

The idea behind all these practices is to make yourself financially independent and know well how to manage your finances. The best way to avoid any clashes or fights is to take charge of your own things and not let your partner interfere too much in your money matters but be careful not to come across as rude or overtly secretive about the same as these may lead to an entirely different types of problems in your relationship and as always good communication and trust is the key.

Most couples these days face problems in their relationship due to money related issues.
