Chandigarh, July 5: According to a recent study, nearly 40 percent of men suffering from erectile dysfunction (ED) are newlywed.
This was confirmed by PGI’s (Post Graduate Institute) department of urology which gets nearly 30 cases of ED every week.
“In the past, couples would wait for years before seeking medical help. By that time, so many of them would be so dejected that divorce seemed the only option.
"However, now wives often drag their husbands into the clinic within the first week of marriage,” stated Santosh Kumar, an assistant professor at the department of urology at PGI, Chandigarh.
Other risks involved
Furthermore, it has been found that nearly 70 percent of men suffering from ED are also suffering from any one of the diseases including thyroid disorders, diabetes, injury to private parts or some neurological and vascular diseases.
The studies reveal that ED is linked to the above mentioned diseases.
Age group
According to doctors, men suffering from ED are generally in the age group between 20-40 years and only one-third of men are over 50 years of age.
Kumar added, “Over 50% impotent men put off seeking help for a year or more. By this time, their marriage runs into trouble and separation stares them in their faces.
"And even when they do seek help, they are consulted by doctors who are uncomfortable with the subject or quick to blame it all on age.”
Relief
However, doctors provided a hope and a sigh of relief confirming that impotency can be cured in almost 85-90 percent of cases.
